Dancing with Power

An embodied exploration of personal power and conscious leadership: stepping into leadership with authenticity to reclaim Self and agency.

About Me

I am Louise Pietre, a facilitator, a leadership and systems coach, an organizational development consultant, and a social artist with 30 years’ experience working with the non-profit, government, and business sectors cultivating systems change for deep equity. I combine systems coaching approaches with theatre tools and methodologies to help leaders and teams awaken their group consciousness, tell their collective stories, and disrupt and shift patterns of thinking and doing that no longer work. I create brave spaces for systems to see and sense themselves, to make meaning together of the shifts needed to create transformative and sustainable systems change. I am the Director of Theatre Époché, my heart space for weaving together leadership, power, and systems change.

I live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe, the Attawandaron, and the Leni-Lunaape, home of the Chippewa of the Thames First Nation, Oneida Nation of the Thames, and Munsee Delaware Nation which today is known as London, Ontario, CANADA.

I play many roles in life. My favourite and the one that has been most life-changing and giving has been my role as mother. Now at the threshold of shifting shorelines, I am stepping into a new role – the ever-expansive net of grandmother love.

Dancing with Power

I launched my workshop series, Dancing with Power, in early 2024. It is a space to teach and play with embodied ways of learning in community with others. Dancing with Power supports leaders and change makers to grapple with the taboo subject of power – to see their power, know their impact, elevate their leadership and re-imagine their power. We can’t get to social justice “out there” unless leaders and teams do their inner work. At the heart of equity-centred leadership, is the conscious and intentional use of power. At the heart of a transformed system, is doing and distributing power differently.

In this experiential workshop, participants will be invited into an embodied exploration of personal power and conscious leadership. Through story telling and embodied practices like Social Presencing Theatre (SPT) and Theatre of the Oppressed (TO), participants will explore power in all its facets:their relationship to power & connecting to their power and agency. In our society, especially for those of us who identify as women, transgender, and non-binary, we often have a complicated relationship with power. In fact, many of us shy away from that word and only see power as a negative, and even a dark force lurking in the shadows waiting to harm. But what if we re-imagine our understanding and knowing of power? What if we understand power to be a resource, and as Larissa Conte describes “the capacity to move energy through a system”. What would be possible? For me, connecting to and understanding my own power, stepping into my leadership power with authenticity and consciousness was a healing reclamation of self and agency.
